Audrey Lumb 12WMSS3Never Look Into A Broken Mirror
Acrylic paint & mixed media This piece is inspired by superstitions surrounding mirrors, specifically the superstition“never look into a broken mirror.” My piece relies heavily on line to create my final image. By juxtaposing the acrylic paint with broken mirror pieces, situated in the shape of a cracking face, I was able to create movement. Colour is a prominent feature in my piece. I used white, light blue and red to create my final image. I used red to create the features in the face and filled in the remaining sections on the cheeks, chin and forehead to create highlights. I painted the background blue as this contrasts greatly with the red, creating a stark distinction between the face and background. Red is often associated as a colour that provides warning. Therefore, I used an immense amount of red to convey the idea of something bad incoming. |
Mia Sobol-Day 12CNMS1Coral Reef
Crochet My work, inspired by Margaret and Christine Wertheim, delves into the issues surrounding the threats to Australia’s coral reefs as a result of climate change. The 3D form created by crochet is representative of the natural and organic structures seen in our oceans. My interest in science and marine life has made me more aware of the potential threats to our planet. The mirrored base asks the viewer to reflect on our responsibilities as a society to our natural resources. |
Milla Farrall 12CHLS1Dreams v. Reality #1
Acrylic paint on canvas This piece depicts a girl, sleeping and in the middle of dreaming. It contrasts the difference between the physical appearance of someone when they are sleeping and what is going on in their mind. It creates a feeling of looking into the mind of the girl that is sleeping and exploring what she is thinking and dreaming, the ideal world she has created for herself in her mind. The girl sleeping is realistic in appearance to allow her to be relatable to the audience and allow them to interpret the meaning of this piece as a dream. It dives into the difference and close relationship between dreams and reality and the ability for them to become confused. |
