Angus McGeehan Angus was our first Artist in Residency at St Columba's College since 2019, and it was an absolute delight for the students to observe live painting demonstrations from such a prolific artist. Many senior students were fascinated by his journals and use of collage, and his influence made its way into their Unit 4 final pieces.
A bit about the artist... Angus McGeehan is a visual artist based in Melbourne, Australia. Working across painting, drawing, collage and sculptural mediums, his practice examines the broadening concepts of phenomenology, nature and myth. The works, identifiable by distinct, biomorphic forms, are juxtaposed between embellished qualities and abrasive aesthetics. Expressed through form, figuration and abstraction, he attempts to create a diverse and idiosyncratic practice. Influenced by mythology, philosophy and science, McGeehan relays a need to explore and dissect the past, present and future. The varying images of Humans, Eukaryote, Technology, Geometry and Calligraphy act as concurrent narrative-building symbols. These motifs interact within the metaphysical and surreal, reiterating the existential trepidations and desires of the artist and the viewer.
