iDESIGN

#BreakTheBias
Year 10 iDesign class created digital portraits to promote the theme for this year's International Women's Day, #BreakTheBias. The students were photographed striking the pose and then created their portrait in the style of WPAP (Wedha's Pop Art Portraits). WPAP is geometric pop art style (sharp lines and wild, vibrant colour schemes) that was popularised in the late 1990's by Indonesian artist Wedha Abdul Rasyid.

MAKE IT FUNKY

Ancient Greek and Roman Columns
Students researched the different components of Ionic, Doric and Corinthian Columns in architecture as a preparation study for their Fantasy Sculpture. They built their columns with basic slab techniques on a tube and decorated simple and elaborate qualities to represent the fashion in architecture over time. They learnt about structural symmetry and inspiration from nature in architecture and how that might influence their fantasy piece. - Hilary Breman

Food - Handbuilding Task
In year 10 Ceramics, students have a number of handbuilding tasks before creating their Final Fantasy Folly.  In this task, students used their favourite food to mimic in clay. They learned about making shapes and joining techniques using different handbuilding techniques. During this process students were able to practice using different glazes. They discovered that the colours changed after the firing process. - Hilary Breman

Fantasy Sculpture
After making a tile from ‘under the sea’ and various slab rolling studies, students had to find their own inspiration to make a large fantasy piece. It had to be a free standing sculpture with various influences from a combination of the following:  the human body, architectural features, animals or nature.

MODERN MONA

A Moment in Time
In this Year 10 painting task a student aims to conjure memory from an intimate space or object. The act of painting becomes a meditation practice. By spending time in everyday places and with everyday objects students invoke a sense of intimacy and presence within their work. Inanimate objects like a cello or a familiar cookie jar come to life with the love and time that the painter spends on painting what they see.

COLLAGE TO CAMERA

Photomontages
Students explored contemporary image construction concepts and techniques, including collage, cameras, darkroom photography, and digital (computer-aided) design. They investigated modern art styles such as Dada and Surrealism, in order to gain inspiration for their own works. Students discussed and debated a range of artistic/social issues through a comparison of artworks and in their own examples.

Students also explored the use of DSLR cameras with studio lighting to take their own images for Photomontages. Some tasks included social commentary themes in their collages while other tasks included random dada themes and strict composition structures. - Hilary Breman
