When Peader Thomas agreed to be our artist in residence, we knew our students would love the wonderfully weird but relatable moments in his work. Using his own sense of humour to inspire, Peader took our students through a process of developing characters for a comic strip, often drawing the same character multiple times to work out what they would look like in terms of facial features, height, limbs, what clothes they would wear. Encouraging the girls to draw their character repeatedly ensured a familiarity with them and a consistency in drawing the small details that are so important to a successful comic strip.
A bit about the artist... Since an early age Peader has been making crude marks on whatever he could get his hands on. Currently he works as an illustrator and designer in Melbourne. His illustrations cover the disciplines of traditional pen and ink drawing, digital design and comic book art. He is inspired by early Russian space exploration, animals in human clothing, and his own ridiculous facial expressions.
