My artwork explored how genetic modification is beginning to mimic the process of evolution and changes to nature. This quasi-scientific scene set in the mid nineteenth century creates a historical juxtaposition by including illustrations of hypothetical, modified animals of the twenty-first century drawn on aged papers. This contrast emphasises the rapid advancements of science and suggests we may have gone too far with animal mutation. I drew inspiration from scientific illustrations by John Gould and the hybrid creations of Patricia Piccinni and Claude Jones.
