Based on the artworks of Fauvist artist Henri Matisse, students were required to create their own paper collage piece. In Matisse’s later years, he became seriously ill and his eyesight began to fail him, so he began to experiment with paper cutouts instead of painting. Students had the opportunity to “[carve] into colour”, experimenting with conceptual ideas, vivid colour palettes, different patterns and organic shapes replicating Matisse’s work. - Olivia Zouev
