St Columba’s College runs an Artist-in-Residence programme (AIR), which provides our students with an insight into the working methods of professional practitioners and enables them to envisage an exciting world they can be a part of. The Visual Arts teachers choose one practising artist to work within the AIR programme.
The aim is to increase the engagement of students in creative practice by giving them an opportunity to interact with and observe an artist at work. During their residency the artists give talks on their specialist area and present workshops. Since their studio is set up within the College for the duration of their stay, the artist's creative process can be witnessed first-hand by both students and staff.
Our Artist-in-Residence programme hopes to inspire young minds, while also raising the status and value of the 'arts' in education.
